Collection: Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was a British-American novelist and playwright. She was born in Cheetham, Manchester, England and emigrated to United States in 1865. Frances always had an active imagination; she could often be seen acting out scenes of her favorite books and making up stories to tell those around her. Frances began her writing career at age 19 by publishing stories in magazines such as Godey’s Lady Book and Harper’s Bazaar. Her debut novel, That Lass o’ Lowrie’s, was published in 1877 and was well received. Today, she is most known for her novels Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess, and The Secret Garden. Her adult novels were also very popular for their time. According to The Bookman, a literary journal based in New York, Frances’ adult romance novel, A Lady of Quality, was the second bestselling novel in the United States during 1896
